So I was actually at the ranch the other day not chasing cattle and stepping in Lord knows what so I had time to watch the sunset. It was a nice sunset so I whipped out the camera Jena let me borrow and started snapping away.
Thirty seconds later I took another picture.
And another thirty seconds later I took another picture.
I have always wanted to set a camera up on a tripod and go sit on top of a hill about an hour before the sun would be totally set and take pictures of the sun sinking into the horizon every sixty seconds. I think it would be awesome to then take those pictures and animate them to make it look like the sun was really setting. It is something I like to ponder on in all my spare time (haha). In all honesty though if I ever really do get to do this experiment I already have the perfect spot picked out where I can watch the sun go down behind a huge hill. I'm not weird or anything it is just that I like to think about other things every now and then besides anything to do with cattle, whose turn is it to clean out the litter box, why does one dog insist on chewing up shoes, and should I part my hair on the left or right side today.
Since I'm just full of off the wall thoughts today I think I'm going to take this whole sunset idea and run with it. Yes, I'm going to make this the next picture assignment.
Rules:
- Anyone may participate and the more the merrier. So tell your friends and neighbors or have a block party and get everyone involved.
- I am going to give you TWO weeks to come up with your best sunrise or sunset pictures. I think that should be plenty of time to perfect your angle shooting and to get the best shots that you can.
- When you have finished taking your pictures and are satisfied with what you have send me your best two in an email titled Sun. My email is cowpiebuzz@yahoo.com.
- The due date for the pictures is Monday November 26 no later than 8:00 CST. I know that this is right after Thanksgiving and most of you will have started your Christmas shopping that weekend so that just means you need to get your assignment in really early.
- There will be a prize but just like last time I am going to keep you in suspense and not tell you what it is.
I am giving you about 14 days, at least 2 pictures a day, which totals to be at least 28 shots. Out of 28 shots I'm thinking you can send me your best two easily.
Somethings I will warn you about when shooting pictures involving the sun. You really can't take a picture of the sun directly, ok you can, but it won't turn out like you want it to. The best time to take a sunrise/sunset shot is when there are clouds involved. As you will notice in my pictures the sun is hidden behind the clouds giving them a great glowing effect.
If you are going for a sunrise picture the best time to shoot (or at least in my neck of the woods) is 6:45am-7:15am. Now if some of you don't know what a sunrise looks like because you are a lazy little heifer (hey, I'm married to one) then I would go for the sunset picture which usually takes place between 5:30pm-6:00pm. If you are a city dweller this assignment will give you a good excuse to take a Sunday drive through the country. I'm not saying that the sun doesn't rise or set in the city it is just that all those buildings might get in the way of your creative thinking and spirit. So set your self free and go to the country.
Well good luck and as usual I can't wait to see what you send in.
-Cowpie-
P.S. I know I was suppose to post a Cowpie Delight today but this weekend was jamb packed with parents, in-laws, birthday parties, and cattle. Which means I have a mountain of laundry and house cleaning to tackle and catch up on but I promise Jena and I will be back in the kitchen real soon.
